Reflection Prompt for 'Empathic Civilisation' talk by Jeremy Rifkin

Empathic Civilisation may sound like a ‘high and mighty’ ideal and you may wonder what it has to do with you and your specific teaching context.

However, as educators, we make a difference to people’s lives (if we didn’t believe this, we would pack up and do something else).

Consider your learning and teaching context and list in your reflective journal the skills and/or knowledge that your students acquire which enables them to become more empathic human beings.

How are you hoping to affect their consciousness?

What steps are you directing them to take in order to become more conscious and to develop their empathic sociability?

How are you helping them on their journey to rethink the human narrative and to make their contribution to the global debate?

Reflection Prompt for 'Learning and Teaching in the 21st Century

Have a look and listen to Matthew Taylor’s 21st Century Enlightenment video.

* Thinking about what you already know about Critial Reflection and Challenging our Assumptions (Unit 1, What does it mean to become a critically reflective practitioner?), what new or exciting ideas did you encounter here?

* Did any of the idea(s) challenge your belief system (paradigmatic assumptions)?

* If so, how?

* If not, explain why not?

Note your discoveries in your Reflective Journal and consider how you might challenge some assumptions held by your students.

Reflection Prompt: Developing Entrepreneurial Students & Graduates.
